AMFI-Amsterdam Fashion Institute

The AMFI-Amsterdam Fashion Institute, part of the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, University of Applied Sciences, has more than 1200 students and 100 teaching staff, most of whom combine their teaching activities with a job in the fashion industry. Experts from the fashion business world are regularly invited to give guest lectures and workshops.

During their studies at the AMFI students learn how to develop forward looking and innovative skills. They are triggered to combine a creative mind with technical and strategic skills. Studying abroad on a student-exchange programme at one of our partner institutes, study trips to countries playing an important role in the industry, international company visits and work placements in foreign countries are all standard features of our education programmes. The AMFI has a broad international network and wants her students to develop such a network themselves. All this enables them to work their way successfully into key positions in the fashion industry or in companies in which fashion and trends play an important role.

A rich history
The AMFI was established in 1992, the result of a merger between Mr. Koetsier and Charles Montaigne, two fashion institutes that had existed since the early 1950s. The AMFI can therefore draw on more than half a century’s experience. The two institutes have been co-located since 1994, when the AMFI moved into the historic headquarters of the Amstel brewery in Amsterdam , now beautifully restored and renovated. The AMFI has gradually expanded its programme ever since, resulting in the current trio of graduation programmes which cover the entire fashion chain: Fashion & Design, Fashion & Management and Fashion & Branding. The AMFI also offers English-language versions of all its programmes – the AMFI International Courses.
