If you haven’t been living under a rock, or in AMFI terms, under process books, you might have seen that on the first of February, the AMFI gala 2019 will take place. We are really excited that we can announce our sponsor this year, COC Amsterdam! This is an NGO (non-governmental organization) fighting for LHBTI+ rights, which we as amfi.nl totally support.

COC Amsterdam and its surroundings are committed to LHBTI + emancipation in the Amsterdam region. They make sure they support gay men and lesbian woman, but also bisexuals, transgenders, intersex people and queers.
They make themselves and LHBTI+ people visible, as this is the first step they are taking to promote social acceptance. COC Amsterdam draws attention to the diversity within the LHBTI+ community, which is one of their main priorities.
COC Amsterdam has their focus on five themes: Advocacy, Meeting & Empowerment, Safety, Information and Care & Welfare. The organization consists of only volunteers, about 150!
COC Amsterdam organizes various activities, for instance, the AmsterdamPinkPanel, which is a collaboration between COC Amsterdam and the Research Institute for Psychology at the University of Amsterdam. The aim of the panel is to give the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LHBT+) community a voice and to be independent from other research institutions.
Respect2Love, a community for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LHBT+) young people with a bicultural background. They understand that if your environment does not accept you as you are, it is not easy to be yourself.
TransUnited, a group for transgender people working on the visibility of the multicultural transgender community in the Netherlands. And much more activities making sure everybody has a place to go and feel like they are being heard and supported.
As a special guest, the secretariat from COC will give us a speech about COC and awareness amongst the younger generation at the AMFI Gala on February 1st.
