On the 1st of February, the Koepelkerk opened its doors for 400 guests in order to celebrate the first AMFI gala together. Organised by students for students, the night was all about forgetting upcoming deadlines, celebrating our successes and getting to know each other better. It was a truly magical night that lived up to its expectations and to its theme; Alexander McQueen.
As the first guests started walking in at 20:00 o’clock, Greenfield opened the night with live jazz music. While sipping on a free cocktail, most guests started exploring the location. As mentioned before, the AMFI gala was held at the Koepelkerk; a 17th-century church in the historical heart of Amsterdam. The other guests either started dancing to the music, taking photo’s at the photo booth or started up a conversation. The angelic location together with the soulful sounds emphasized the theme of the evening and set us off to a great start. Around 22:00 o’clock, all of the students were inside and after an inspiring speech of COC, DJ Kastkaar started playing his music. He moved the guests towards the dancefloor and together we danced into a night that was going to be unforgettable.
DRESSED TO IMMORTALIZE:
The gala was a homage to Alexander McQueen, the British designer and couturier that is well-known for his extravagant and dramatic style. All guests were invited to feel free to dress and express themselves in every way they love. Under the wings of McQueen’s creative spirit, they showed up in their most extravagant outfits. All of these incredible fashion moments have been captured beautifully by various photographers. The results can be found on the event’s Facebook page.
The gala was held in collaboration with COC Amsterdam, a non-profit organisation that fights for equal rights within the LGTBQ society. It is the first and biggest organization, which is celebrating its 73rd birthday now. Because AMFI believes in doing good for others, every ticket that has been bought is helping the organization grow further.)
The events team of the gala promised us ‘’a night full of love, madness, incredible fashion moments, entertainment and drinks while dancing the night away.’’ We’ve gotten all of that, and even more. Next to the love and freedom everybody felt, it was a great opportunity to get to know our fellow students outside of school situations. The first AMFI gala has been a great success, and it will hopefully be followed by many more.
