Explore the potential of 3D technologies for the fashion industry and education
Introducing virtual fashion design into the creative design process has proven to offer a number of beneficial outcomes for fashion companies and designers. Changing the collection development cycle, by adding techniques including 3D virtual prototyping, has enabled fashion companies and designers to shorten lead times and reduce development costs. There are many major companies as well as small and medium-scale designers who are adopting digital processes, in many cases specifically related to pattern making techniques. AMFI is working on the cutting edge of these developments and is organising a symposium to bring together a variety of stakeholders to the progress being made in virtual fashion design.
Together with Modint, ClickNL and the Amsterdam Creative Industries Network, AMFI has invited technical experts from leading companies offering 3D virtual prototyping software suites to share their stories with an interested public of industry designers, scientists, education specialists and ambitious students. The programme will begin with a short presentation from each speaker on the unique elements of their systems and solutions. Next, guests can exposition where guests can get up close and personal with the software and its applications. Participating companies include Grafis, Assyst, Gerber, DC Suite, Lectra, and Optitex.Research interns from the media MediaLAB Amsterdam will also present their semester project on virtual fashion and design visualisation. The panel discussion following the afternoon session allows invited guests to share their diverse perspectives on current themes and reflect on questions from the floor. The session will conclude with drinks and a chance to mingle and discuss the afternoon’s key takeaways.
