“DESIGNING FOR TIME INSTEAD OF AGAINST IT” presented by iNDiViDUALS STUDIO GENERATION 32

“IT’S ABOUT TIME”

Exploring the dimensions of lateral thinking, GENERATION 32 of iNDiViDUALS STUDIO takes us through their process with an interactive fashion experience centred around designing for time instead of against it. Five statement looks and their digital twins embodied this principle that was expressed through durability, evolvability and adjustability of the garments. The event, which took place on June 22, was staged in an old industrial warehouse on the outskirts of Amsterdam, mirroring the central theme of their concept: the beauty of ageing.

GENERATION 32 sees the untapped beauty in the natural ageing process of garments. Unlike the fast fashion industry, they do not look at garments as disposable products but rather believe that a garment tells a story through every wrinkle, stain, and hole. That is what makes garments more valuable to them, and that is what they communicated at their event.

Attendees were invited to adjust the five statement looks worn by models standing in front of exhibition walls, depicting the process of achieving these looks. Stories, dyeing samples and trimmings were exposed. A live photoshoot took place, where the models were being photographed after guests had adjusted their outfits. One of the outfits was even ageing before the guests’ eyes, through 3D.
