Harper's Bazaar Women of the Year award Winner Tess van Zalinge pioneers in sustainability and craftsmanship
November 24, 2023Tess van Zalinge Studied Fashion and Design at AMFI and graduated in 2012. Last week she won the Harper's Bazaar Women of the year - Rising Star award. In an interview with the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences she tells all about her vision on sustainable fashion.
Van Zalinge tells AUAS: "In 2016, I started my own label to bring sustainability to couture. I started without a business plan, and now my work has taken a set form: we launch one couture collection every year. We also engage in creative collaborations with big companies so that we can share our mission with the world through them.

Every collection I launch draws on sustainability, craft and my own creative input. It also gives us the opportunity to shine our light on a different relevant topic each time.
For instance, in 2019 and 2020, I launched collections made from old wedding dresses, which we redesigned into new wedding garments and accessories. Because in bridal fashion, everything is allowed and so much is purchased for that one moment. But when buying a wedding dress, you can also think beyond the day you wear it. For example, you can take the dress apart again, and make new designs out of it."
